I received a text message, email, and/or phone call asking to pay a ticket. Is it a scam?

Yes. Some people are being targeted with bogus text messages, emails, or phone calls for failing to pay a federal ticket. In some cases, these people are being presented with a fraudulent website made to look like cvb.uscourts.gov. Recipients who have never received a violation notice from federal law enforcement are pressured to pay a ticket potentially leading to identity theft and fraud. These communications are fraudulent and are not connected with the U.S. Courts. 

Please note that if you received a federal ticket and it remains unanswered after your scheduled date in court, a U.S. Marshal may contact you by telephone. The U.S. Marshal will direct you to the U.S. District Court to either appear or pay. You will be directed to pay online via this website or mail a payment directly to the Central Violations Bureau

Persons receiving a communications are advised to first confirm that any link ends in a .gov and if not, do not to click the link. Links ending in .com, .us, .net, etc. should not be used. Recipients should delete the text or email and report it to their provider as a scam. If you receive a phone call you are unsure about, please hang up and call the CVB directly.
